How to add your QR code or RooCard to Apple Wallet

How to add your QR code or RooCard to Apple Wallet

Your QR code can live in Apple Wallet as a simple, scannable RooQR pass. It works for a business card, a menu, a review link and the other QR types in RooQR. Your full RooCard design still lives on the web.

You will need: a Big Red account, a saved QR code and an iPhone with Apple Wallet. Adding a pass is optional. You can continue downloading and sharing ordinary QR images without adding anything to Wallet.

Three illustrated steps: save a QR code in RooQR, create its Wallet pass, then open it on iPhone and tap Add.

Illustrated workflow, not screenshots of Apple Wallet. Apple controls its final layout.

1. Choose what your QR code will do

Sign in, open your QR dashboard and choose New QR code. In Select type & link, choose the QR content type and enter the details. This is what another device receives when it scans the QR, not a Wallet-only setting.

  • Website, bio page, reviews, PDF or social: opens the saved link, depending on the scanning device.
  • Contact, phone, email or SMS: carries the relevant contact information or action. The scanning phone may ask the person to confirm.
  • Wi-Fi or text: carries those details. Not every phone or scanning app handles every QR action in the same way.

For link-based codes, you can use a dynamic short link when your plan and code allowance permit. A dynamic code points through RooQR; a static code contains the saved content directly.

2. Understand which form fields appear in Wallet

Open Label, type & Apple Wallet in the QR form. The preview shows how your saved information is used. It is illustrative, rather than an exact image of the pass on every iPhone.

Label Studio contact becomes LABEL on the pass. From the optional tags Business, Networking, only the first tag Business becomes TYPE.
  • Label (optional): your saved code name appears as LABEL on the pass. Leaving it blank saves the code as Untitled code.
  • Type / tags (optional): separate tags with commas. Only the first appears as TYPE on the pass. Leave the field blank to omit TYPE entirely. Other tags stay in RooQR.
  • QR content: the pass uses the saved destination or dynamic short link, not the label or tag text.

For example, you might name your code Studio contact and enter Business, Networking as tags. Wallet shows Studio contact and Business. Networking is not another line on the pass. Your QR content type, such as Website URL or Contact, is a separate setting from these optional tags.

3. Know what does not transfer

The universal Wallet design has a dark face, readable light text, a warm accent and a standard QR code rendered by Apple. It deliberately avoids large decorative artwork so the label and QR remain the focus.

Your custom QR colours, dots, corner styles, uploaded QR logo, sticker frame and scan label apply to your ordinary QR artwork. They do not transfer into the Wallet pass. Wallet uses RooQR branding. A RooCard portrait, cover image, buttons and full web layout also remain on the web rather than being squeezed into the pass.

The pass details include the QR content type, static or dynamic mode, and the encoded destination. Treat the pass as shareable information: anyone you send it to can read or scan what it contains. Do not distribute a private Wi-Fi password or personal contact details more widely than intended.

4. Save first, then create your pass

  1. Choose Save code, or Update QR code when editing.
  2. Return to your QR dashboard and find the saved code.
  3. Choose Add to Apple Wallet on its card.
  4. Wait while RooQR creates the signed pass. If the browser offers a download, accept it. The file ends in .pkpass.

Creating or downloading a pass does not mean it has already been installed. RooQR cannot confirm that the final Add action happened on your device.

5. Open it on your iPhone and tap Add

On iPhone, open the pass preview if it appears and tap Add. If a file downloaded instead, open that .pkpass file on your iPhone, then tap Add when Wallet offers it. Afterwards, open the Wallet app and look for your saved label.

Starting on a computer or iPad? Downloading the pass there is normal. Send the .pkpass file to your iPhone using AirDrop or email, open it on the iPhone, and tap Add. Download and opening behaviour can vary between browsers.

To share in person, open the pass in Wallet and let another phone scan its QR. The scan carries out the saved action, subject to that phone’s support. This is an Apple Wallet pass, not an Android or Google Wallet export.

For RooCards: publish, create a QR, then add the pass

  1. Choose a design from RooCards, replace all fictional sample information, and save and publish your bio page.
  2. On the saved page card in Bio pages, choose Save as QR code.
  3. Save the QR in the editor, then return to your QR dashboard.
  4. Choose Add to Apple Wallet on that code and complete the iPhone steps above.

The pass is your quick introduction. A scan opens the published RooCard, where visitors can use its contact shortcuts or choose Save contact. That button downloads a contact file; the visitor confirms adding it in their Contacts app. Adding your Wallet pass does not itself add a contact.

What happens when you change something?

  • Label, optional type or static QR content changes: save the changes, download a fresh pass and open it on your iPhone. Installed passes do not refresh automatically.
  • Dynamic destination changes: the pass keeps the same short link, which resolves to the newly saved destination. You do not need a new pass just to change that destination.
  • RooCard page edits: visitors see the latest published page when they open its unchanged link. This updates the web page, not the text or design stored in Wallet.

If the pass does not appear

Check your downloads for the .pkpass file and open it on your iPhone. If RooQR shows an error, use Try again after checking that the QR has saved and your account has Big Red access. If the file downloads on a computer, transfer it rather than expecting it to appear automatically on your phone.

If scanning opens the wrong content, edit the QR destination in RooQR. For a static code, create a fresh pass after saving. For a dynamic code, check the saved redirect destination. Never assume the visible label changes what the QR encodes.
