Dynamic vs Static QR Codes: An Aussie Business Guide

Before printing a QR code, decide whether its destination is likely to change. RooQR offers static codes on the free Mate plan and dynamic redirects on Big Red.

Static codes: the information is in the pattern

A static QR code contains your link, Wi-Fi details, contact information or other content directly. You cannot edit an already downloaded code. If the information changes, you need a new code and new printed artwork.

Static codes do not rely on a RooQR redirect and do not expire through a RooQR subscription. A linked website or file can still become unavailable, so keep the destination working. RooQR cannot collect scan analytics from a direct static code.

Dynamic codes: the pattern contains a short link

A dynamic code sends visitors through a RooQR redirect. You can edit the saved destination without replacing the printed code. This is useful for seasonal menus, campaign pages and changing listings.

Dynamic codes depend on the RooQR routing service. Big Red includes up to 50 dynamic codes and scan analytics, with up to 100,000 scans per month subject to verification and protective logging limits. Recorded scans are estimates, not guaranteed unique people.

Choose for the job

  • Use static codes for information you expect to keep fixed.
  • Use dynamic codes for a destination you expect to update after printing.
  • Choose Big Red if you need RooQR-hosted bio pages; Mate does not include them.
  • Test a print sample and check the destination before ordering a batch.

Big Red is A$7 per month or A$60 per year. See the current plan details and QR builder guide before choosing.
